Intraoperative chemohyperthermia (HIPEC)

After oncological surgery, a Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) treatment is used to administer a hyperthermic solution of highly concentrated chemotherapy drugs directly into the peritoneal cavity. This involves washing the abdominal cavity by circulating a pre-warmed chemotherapy solution through a special device for a certain period of time.

This loco-regional peritoneal chemotherapy technique can destroy microscopic and invisible deposits of cancerous cells trapped in the abdomen after surgery, allowing the use of much higher doses of chemotherapy than intravenous chemotherapy, while reducing many of the negative effects of intravenous chemotherapy itself.

The thermal effect on the tissue itself increases the absorption of chemotherapeutic drugs by the cancerous tissue.
